Turning to the present difficult times for the aviation industry, Gihan Karunaratne said, "We are living in challenging times. This is nothing new to the travel industry. In the year 2007 we have weathered increasing fuel cost by 70 per cent, inflation over 20 per cent, cyclones, recessions and wars. But we survived. Not only survived, we stood up to the challenge and managed, through the help and support of our partners the travel agents, to position Oman Air as one of the leading carriers in Bangladesh and also in the region.
92pc above revenue target
In the year 2007 we were 92 per cent above our revenue target, a healthy load factor of 87 per cent, local sales were at 68 per cent. "This would not have been possible if not for the undaunting support of our partners you, the travel agents," he said.
Gihan Karunaratne said, as the ever-soaring wings of the nation, we will continue serving you with pride and passion while flying you with exemplary standards of warmth, comfort and hospitality. Partnership will play a key role in our business and I can't think of better partners than you all, he added.
I wish to highlight to achieve our objectives requires a range of technical and financial prerequisites, it also requires the sound expertise, support and dedication of our dynamic partners represented by each individual present here tonight. Your generous dedication will undeniably serve to establish Oman Air as the airline of choice in Bangladesh.
In line with our 2007 theme, "Expect More," Oman Air will continue to capitalize on the positive economic developments, expand its network, acquire wide body state of the art aircrafts, fly long haul routes to encourage and stimulate travel in and to Chittagong and Bangladesh. We will continue to work aggressively on behalf of the Industry and we will go-on providing the kind of leadership that has made us a trusted name for over 15 years.
