Chittagong Dock Management Board abolished

The moveable and the immovable properties belong to Dock Management worth about taka two hundred crores and the assets and liabilities have been handed over to the port authority . At the same time, 174 permanent officials and other related workers have been regularised with the service of port authority. Very recently a govt gazette was published after finalising the matter recently.
It may be Mentioned that Port authority constituted the Dcok Management Board in 1980 to ensure the control of dock labours and their facilities. In fact DMB was formed to supply labourers to the stevedoring agents and their salaries had been realised from the concerned stevedores. Before 1980, the stevedore agents would engage stevedoring labours from outside and after the formation of DMB , the stevedoring agents repeatedly were demanding abolition of the DMB. After assuming power by caretaker govt , the reformation of the port activities began and the activities of the DMB was suspended forthwith. At the same time stevedoring system in cargo handing in port was abolished and berth operating system was introduced. The berth operating system was introduced from May last year. Also mentionable that after abolition of dock management, about 4000 dock labourers were released from service after fulfilling their dues and benefits and only 200 officials transferred their service to the Port authority. by Sarwaruddin, Chittagong
